Pediatric Dentistry
When should you schedule your child’s first visit?
We recommend that children begin visiting the dentist for an examination and cleaning at age three and a half. Six months prior to that initial visit, it is advisable for one parent to bring the child along on their regularly scheduled adult visit. This provides the child an opportunity to become acquainted with us and the chance to sit in the motorized dental chair and become comfortable with the environment. Stickers, rings and “glove balloons” all await your child as they walk out the door.
When fillings need to be performed
Dr. Giberson has found that nitrious oxide “laughing gas” is an excellent means of relaxing children prior to administering local anesthesia. In the majority of our cases, children are not even aware of receiving an oral injection. We find that it is best that the children have no awareness that they may receive an injection prior to the visit.
When should you consider orthodontic treatment for your child?
Orthodontic intervention can occur as early as seven years of age, depending on the individual child. As your child develops, Dr. Giberson will make a professional recommendation as to when your child should be seen by an orthodontist.
