A cleaning and oral exam every six months is the cornerstone of preventive dental care. By seeing you for regular dental appointments, Dr. Lana Waibel can track any changes in your oral health, and ensure that you are not at risk of developing common conditions, like tooth decay or gum disease.
Our friendly, gentle hygienists will make sure you feel comfortable throughout your cleaning. We’ll use the latest technology and x-rays to look below the surface, and make sure your mouth is completely healthy. In addition, bi-annual teeth cleanings help remove plaque, tartar and surface stains from your teeth that can’t be removed with regular brushing and flossing alone. At Nova Cosmetic Dentistry, we offer preventive dentistry services for patients throughout Ambler, Lower Gwynedd, Blue Bell, and surrounding areas to keep smiles healthy, strong, bright, and beautiful.

As part of every comprehensive oral exam at Nova Cosmetic Dentistry, we provide oral cancer screenings. Dr. Waibel will take a look at your mouth and look for bumps, lesions, and other irregularities that may indicate the presence of cancer. Regular screenings give you peace of mind, and ensure that you can get the help you need in the rare event that we notice an issue.
Fluoride treatments can be applied after teeth cleanings at Nova Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Waibel will apply a fluoride-rich gel to your teeth, which will help remineralize and strengthen your enamel, as well as also reduce sensitivity. It can even reverse the effects of minor tooth decay and ensure that your smile remains strong and healthy. Fluoride treatments are often recommended for kids, but are appropriate for patients of all ages.
Dental sealants are the best way to prevent tooth decay in the cavity-prone molars. Dr. Waibel will apply a clear liquid resin to your teeth, and then harden it with a UV light. This creates a transparent barrier that protects the surface of your teeth from contact with damaging oral bacteria and acid, preventing the formation of cavities.
Genetics plays a huge role in gum disease. Some patients can be genetically more prone to it while others are not. Although you can’t control your genes, you can make choices that will improve your oral health and lessen your risk for the disease. Proper brushing and flossing habits, eliminating tobacco use, sticking to a low-sugar diet, and controlling or preventing diabetes can put you in a better position to avoid gum disease.
Some common signs of periodontal disease include:
- Bleeding when brushing and flossing
- Persistent bad breath
- Red, puffy, inflamed gums
- Triangle-shaped gaps between your teeth
After periodontal disease is diagnosed, we recommend splitting the non-surgical periodontal therapy into two appointments. We will use local anesthesia (lidocaine) to numb the area so the procedure is absolutely painless from start to finish. After the deep cleaning is complete, our expert hygiene team will provide you with thorough home care instructions to keep you gums healthy. We will continue to monitor your periodontal status closely to make sure you are on the path to total health.
